Car Insurers

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Do you want to know some great ways of economising on your auto insurance costs. Here are just a few of the ways you can do it. As you know in these days of financial crisis, american car insurance costs are going up and up, but it’s something we all need and must have in the eyes of the law. However, don’t be fooled into thinking you just have to accept the quote your insurer gives you, as there are plenty of ways to significantly reduce your car insurance costs.

Firstly, you should shop around as much as possible – too many people don’t even do this step which is unforgiveable with the internet at our disposal these days. The internet makes it easy to compare prices from different insurers, so why not take advantage of this? On top of that, most insurance companies usually offer a minimum ten percent discount for buying online.

Secondly, look at what policy suits your particular situation. Going for a third party fire & theft policy can reduce your premiums hugely, and is definitely worth considering if your car isn’t an expensive model. Thirdly, there’s the no claims discounts: Nearly all policies feature a discount that increases for every year you don’t make a claim. The higher the discount available, the more you could save. Also look at insurers offering a ‘no claims bonus for life’ feature, where your current discount level can be fixed forever, even if you have to make a claim somewhere down the line.

Look at what excess you have on your current policy, this is the amount you pay before the insurer picks up the claim. You will get a cheaper car insurance premium of you choose to pay a higher excess. Security: Fitting your vehicle with an alarm, immobiliser, or other security devices can lead to premium reductions. If you have a garage with your house, you can say you keep your car locked in your garage overnight instead of leaving it on the street, thus making it more secure and again giving you a further reduction.

Pay annually: Many insurers charge you interest for the privilege of paying in monthly installments. So definitely pay annually if you can, but if you can’t manage this, then find the insurers who don’t charge extra for the monthly payment method. You will save on your insurance if you’re a social user instead of a commuter as you’re likely to have a lower mileage which you will get a discount for. Even if you are a commuter or use your car a lot, make sure you accurately calculate your mileage as you may be overestimating causing you to have higher than necessary premiums.

These are just some of the methods to save on your automobile insurance plan, so start searching and saving today. (more…)
